Performance Opportunity for an Atlanta Band
Another press release that may be of interest to a band on the rise has come across my desk. To quote the release: “uPlaya is looking for a band to play at FutureMedia Fest 2010, a three-day event hosted by Georgia Tech to highlight technology advancements in the state of Georgia. The band will play in the Music Mix portion of the event, which is held in downtown Atlanta on Tuesday, October 5, beginning around 6 p.m.”
Though it’s not a paying gig, the opportunity to get your music in front of a large crowd is always valuable. And this is a crowd centered around music and media, so that makes it even more advantageous. Naturally, you’d also like to do some of your own marketing efforts by inviting others to come hear you perform (booking agents, A&R, press, etc.).
The press release specifies “band” but I believe that’s all about energy. So if you’re a singer/songwriter who can deliver an upbeat show (or better yet, have some musicians to perform with you), I suggest sending a submission. Though they may determine you’re not right for them, the person seeing your submission may know of a perfect opportunity for you. To turn a phrase, you gotta be in it to get it.
It appears only one performer will be chosen so put your best foot forward. Send an email to info@uplaya.com. In that email you should (1) introduce yourself, (2) express your interest in being chosen as the performer for the Music Mix portion of FutureMedia Fest and (3) include a link to your website or a place uPlaya can hear your music or see your performance. (By the way, if you don’t have these things available, what are you waiting for? When these kinds of opportunities arise, you should already have a Youtube channel with your music videos and performance clips as well as a website that introduces you to the world.)
So, if you’re in or near the Atlanta area (or will be during early October), get cracking. And for everyone else, Retweet or Like this post so others in your circle will be aware of this opportunity.
Here’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss. The Music Industry Report (TMIR) is offering free video advertising for indie artists, bands and producers. Yes, I said FREE. This is a chance to get your music in front of thousands of music insiders.

It wouldn’t be a normal day if I didn’t spend it listening to tons of music. However, there are times when I prefer to work in silence. I’m easily distracted so even at a low volume, the right track can cause me to daydream. So I wanted to turn off the music and concentrate on my work, but since I was too lazy to go to the other side of the room and turn it off, I decided to let the music play. Shortly after I began to work, Natalie Walker’s Urban Angel began to play. I listened to the CD a lot when I originally purchased it back in 2006 but hadn’t heard it in a long time. It was like an unexpected visit from an old friend, a pleasant surprise filled with re-experiencing beautiful moments.
